Delivery Driver App Development

A driver app that gets every job to the right driver instantly, guides them stop to stop, verifies each handoff and shows exactly what they have earned.

When jobs reach drivers by phone call or WhatsApp, dispatchers spend the day relaying addresses, drivers miss jobs, handoffs aren't recorded and payouts are worked out by hand at the end of the week. A driver app replaces that with one loop: go online, get the alert, follow the route, confirm the handoff, get paid.

We built Bhaada Buddy, the driver-partner app for the Bhaada cargo platform, live on Google Play and the App Store. It replaced an earlier Firebase-based flow where new orders reached drivers late or not at all.

What a driver app should do

  • Availability: one switch to go online or offline.
  • Instant job alerts: new orders pushed the moment they arrive, with details before accepting.
  • Navigation: turn-by-turn directions built into the pickup and delivery flow.
  • Verified handoffs: OTP confirmation at pickup and drop.
  • Earnings: a wallet, an earnings ledger and payouts the driver can see.

What We Built for Bhaada Buddy

01

Go online, get matched

Drivers toggle online to start receiving jobs. Availability feeds the H3 grid that matches nearby orders, with per-city coverage zones.

  • Online/offline availability switch
  • City-wise coverage via Uber H3 grid

Job alerts you can't miss

A real-time Socket.IO backend pushes custom notifications and in-app alerts the moment an order lands, with full order details visible before the driver accepts.

  • Order details before accepting

OTP-verified pickup and delivery

Turn-by-turn Google Maps navigation guides the driver to each stop, and OTP confirmation at pickup and drop records every handoff.

  • Turn-by-turn Google Maps navigation
  • OTP at pickup and drop
  • Step-by-step active order flow

Wallet, ledger and payouts

Every completed order adds to the driver's wallet, with an order-by-order earnings ledger, Razorpay payouts and earnings analytics. Drivers sign up with KYC documents and are approved by the operations team.

Why drivers stop calling dispatch

Drivers call when they don't know something: where to go, who to meet, whether a job changed, when they'll be paid. An app that answers those on screen removes most of the calls. Our guide to driver app features that reduce support calls goes through them one by one.

What drives the scope

  • Driver model: employed drivers vs driver-partners who need onboarding, KYC and payouts.
  • Job assignment: assigned by dispatch vs offered to nearby drivers to accept.
  • Proof at each stop: OTP, photos or signatures.
  • Signal on the road: whether the app must work offline.
  • Vehicles: one vehicle per driver, or several per account.

How we build it

We build driver apps in Flutter for Android and iOS, on a Node.js and Socket.IO backend shared with the customer booking app and the operations portal.

FAQ

Bhaada Buddy is on both Google Play and the App Store from one Flutter codebase. In India most drivers use Android, so that is usually the priority.

In Bhaada Buddy, drivers sign up with Aadhar, PAN, driving licence and a photo, and the operations team approves them before they can go online.

Yes. Each completed order adds to the driver's wallet with a full ledger, and payouts run through Razorpay.

Often, if your system has an API. If it doesn't, the driver app can come with its own operations portal so jobs and drivers live in one place.
